TVS has acquired the legendary British motorcycle brand, Norton, for GBP 16 million (Rs 153 crore).

Norton will continue to retain its distinctive identity with dedicated and specific business plans.

TVS Motor Company, India's fourth-largest two-wheeler manufacturer, on April 17 announced the acquisition of Britain's iconic sporting motorcycle brand Norton in an all-cash deal.

The Chennai-based company will pay GBP 16 million (Rs 153.2 crore) by acquiring certain assets of Norton Motorcycles (United Kingdom) (in administration) through one of its overseas subsidiaries. This is the first-ever overseas acquisition by TVS Motor Company.

Founded by James Lansdowne Norton, in Birmingham, in 1898, Norton Motorcycles is among the most popular British motorcycle brands of all time and is one of the most emotive marques today, TVS said in a release.

Norton Motorcycles is known for their classic models and eclectic range of luxury motorcycles ranging from retro classic reboots of the famous Commando to their contemporary 200 bhp, 1200cc
V4 super-bikes.

The acquisition was undertaken under the guidance of financial advisors, Rothschild and Co, and legal advice for the transaction was provided by Khaitan & Co, and Slaughter and May.

இந்தியாவின் 10 பொதுத்துறை வங்கிகளின் எண்ணிக்கையை குறைக்கும் வகையில், வங்கிகள் இணைப்பை மத்திய அரசு, மேற்கொண்டு வருகிறது. கடந்த ஆண்டு, விஜயா வங்கி, தேனா வங்கி ஆகியவை பேங்க் ஆப் பரோடாவுடன் இணைக்கப்பட்டன. இந்நிலையில், 2வது ஒருங்கிணைப்பாக 10 பொதுத்துறை வங்கிகள் 4 பெரிய வங்கிகளுடன் இணைக்கப்படுகின்றன. இந்த வங்கிகள் இணைப்பு இன்று (ஏப்.,01) முதல் அமலுக்கு வருகிறது. நாடு முழுவதும் ஊரடங்கு அமலில் உள்ளபோதும், திட்டமிட்டபடி வங்கிகள் ஒருங்கிணைப்பு அமலுக்கு வந்தது.

The schemes for the merger of ten state-run banks into four lenders are coming into force from April 1, according to the Reserve Bank of India. The banking regulator in separate releases announced that the branches of merging banks will operate as of the banks in which these have been amalgamated. The government on March 4 had notified the amalgamation schemes for 10 state owned banks into four as part of its consolidation plan to create bigger size stronger banks in the public sector.

Bank officers' unions, however, earlier this week wrote to the prime minister seeking to defer the merger schemes of lenders due to the lockdown triggered by coronavirus outbreak. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday had clarified that the mega bank consolidation plan was very much on track and would take effect from April 1 despite the onslaught of coronavirus pandemic throwing the country out of gear.

As per the scheme, Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India will be merged into Punjab National Bank; 

Syndicate Bank into Canara Bank; 

Allahabad Bank into Indian Bank; 

Andhra and Corporation banks into Union Bank of India. 

Under this, the branches of Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India will operate as branches of Punjab National Bank from April 1, 2020, and branches of Syndicate Bank as that of Canara Bank, the RBI said in a separate releases.

Allahabad Bank branches will operate as those of Indian Bank while the branches of Andhra Bank and Corporation Bank will function as the branches of Union Bank of India from the beginning of next fiscal year 2020-21, the RBI said. "The Amalgamation of Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India into Punjab National Bank Scheme, 2020 dated March 4, 2020, issued by the Government of India... The scheme comes into force on the 1st day of April 2020," RBI said.

Customers, including depositors of merging banks will be treated as customers of the banks in which these banks have been merged with effect from April 1, 2020, the RBO noted. Banking services across the country are impacted due to the effect of COVID-19 as a near shut down is being observed across the country.

சென்னை: மானியமில்லாத காஸ் சிலிண்டர் விலை தொடர்ந்து 2வது மாதமாக குறைந்துள்ளது. சென்னையில் ரூ.64.50 விலை குறைந்துள்ளது.

சென்னை: மானியமில்லாத காஸ் சிலிண்டர் விலை தொடர்ந்து 2வது மாதமாக குறைந்துள்ளது. சென்னையில் ரூ.64.50 விலை குறைந்துள்ளது.

தற்போது, ஒவ்வொரு வீட்டிற்கும் மானிய விலையில், ஆண்டிற்கு 12 காஸ் சிலிண்டர்கள் (14.2 கிலோ எடை கொண்டவை) விற்பனை செய்யப்படுகிறது. இதற்கு மேல் கூடுதலான சிலிண்டர்கள் தேவைப்பட்டால், சந்தை விலை கொடுத்துதான் வாங்க வேண்டும்.

இந்தியன் ஆயில் நிறுவனத்தின் இண்டேன், இந்தியா முழுவதும் தினந்தோறும் 30 லட்சம் சிலிண்டர்களை விற்பனை செய்து வருகிறது.

கடந்த ஆகஸ்ட் மாதத்திற்கு பிறகு தொடர்ந்து உயர்ந்து வந்த மானியமில்லாத சிலிண்டர் விலை கடந்த மார்ச் மாதம் குறையத்தொடங்கியது.

இந்நிலையில், தொடர்ந்து 2வது மாதமாக மானியம் இல்லாத சிலிண்டரின் விலை குறைக்கப்படுவதாக அந்நிறுவனம் அறிவித்துள்ளது.

This is the second consecutive fall in cylinder prices in the last two months. Consequently, a 14.2 kg non-subsidised LPG will now cost Rs 744 in Delhi, while in Mumbai, the price is at Rs 714.50. An LPG cylinder will cost Rs 774.5 in Kolkata and Rs 761.5 in Chennai.

Amid the nationwide coronavirus lockdown, the government has cut the prices of non-subsidised LPG cylinders (14.2kg) on Wednesday, in line with a huge fall in global crude. As a result, the prices have been reduced by Rs 65 per cylinder, according to the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC)'s monthly revision issued on Wednesday.

வயது வித்தியாசம் இல்லாமல் மற்றவரை ஏமாற்றும் நாள் தான் 'ஏப்ரல் முதல் நாள்'. பெரும்பாலான நாடுகள் இதனை கடைபிடிக்கின்றன.

கனடா, நியூசிலாந்து, லண்டன், ஆஸ்திரேலியா, தென் ஆப்ரிக்கா போன்ற நாடுகளில் பாரம்பரிய விழாக்கள் போல் கடைபிடிப்பார்கள். 

ஏப்ரல் 1: முட்டாள்கள் தினம் உருவானது எப்படி?- சுவாரசிய வரலாறு!

உலக அளவில் மகளிர் தினம், நண்பர்கள் தினம், தந்தையர் தினம், காதலர் தினம், குழந்தைகள் தினம், தொழிலாளர்கள் தினம் என்று மக்களுக்குப் பலவிதமான தினங்கள் இருப்பது போலவே முட்டாள்களுக்கும் என்று ஒரு தினம் ஒதுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. ஆனால் ஏனைய தினங்களுக்கு உரிமை கொண்டாடுவதைப் போல இத்தினத்தில் தமக்கும் பங்கிருப்பதாகச் சொல்லிக் கொள்ள எவரும் முன்வருவதில்லை.

அதே நேரம் தம்மை அடையாளப்படுத்திக் கொள்ளாமல் அடுத்தவரை முட்டாளாக்க முனையும் 'முட்டாள்தனமான அறிவாளிகளின் தினம்' என்று இன்றைய தினத்தைக் கூறினாலும் பிழையாகாது. ஆம்..நாமெல்லாம் பள்ளிப் பருவத்தில்..சக நண்பர்களிடம், வீட்டில் உள்ளவர்களிடம் அன்று ஏமாறாமல் இருக்க வேண்டும் என்று நினைத்துக் கொண்ட நாட்களை மறக்க முடியாது.

அதேபோல ஒருவரையாவது ஏமாற்றி விட வேண்டும் என்ற விளையாட்டுத்தனமும் அதில் இருந்த ஆர்வமும் மறக்க முடியாது. உன் சட்டையிலே என்ன கற ? உன் பின்னே பாம்பு..? என்று ஆரம்பித்து பல ஏமாற்றுக் கேள்விகளை நண்பர்களிடம் சொல்லி...ஏமாற்றி விளையாடி இருப்போம்.. அதுதான் இந்த ஏப்ரல் முதல் தேதியாகும். ஏமாற்றுவதையும் ஏமாறுவதையும் சிரித்துக்கொண்டே ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளும் ஒரு தினம்..

உலகம் முழுவதும் பலரைக் குழந்தைப் பருவத்துக்கு அழைத்துச் செல்லும் இன்றைய தினம், எப்படி உருவானது? அதன் வரலாற்றுப் பின்னணியில் பல கதைகள் உண்டு. 1500-களில் ஐரோப்பியர்கள் கடைப்பிடித்த ஒரு பழக்கமாக ஏப்ரல் 1 கூறப்படுகிறது.

என்ன காரணம்

பிரான்சில் முதன் முதலில்இத்தினம் கொண்டாடப்பட்டது. 16ம் நுாற்றாண்டு வரை ஐரோப்பாவின் பல நாடுகளில் ஏப்.1 தான், புத்தாண்டு தினமாக கடைபிடிக்கப்பட்டது. அப்போதைய ஜூலியன் காலண்டரிலும் இவ்வாறு தான் இருந்தது. பின் 13ம் போப் கிரிகோரி, 1582 பிப்., 29ல், புதிய காலண்டரை அறிமுகப்படுத்தினார். இதில் ஜன.1, புத்தாண்டாக மாற்றப்பட்டது.

இதனை ஜெர்மனி உள்ளிட்ட பல நாடுகள் ஏற்கவில்லை. ஸ்பெயின், போர்ச்சுக்கல், இத்தாலி போன்றவை இந்த காலண்டரை 1582 அக்., முதல் பயன்படுத்த துவங்கின. 1752ல் இங்கிலாந்து, அமெரிக்காவிலும்மற்றும் ஆங்கிலேயர் ஆட்சியின் போது இந்தியாவிலும் இக்காலண்டர் புழக்கத்திற்கு வந்தது.புதிய காலண்டரை ஏற்காத நாடுகளை கிண்டல் செய்வதற்காக 'முட்டாள்கள் தினம்' அறிமுகமானது. நாளடைவில் அனைத்து நாடுகளும் இத்தினத்தை முட்டாள்கள் தினமாக கொண்டாடின.

கடந்த 1508 முதலே பிரான்சில் முட்டாள்கள் தினம் கொண்டாடப்பட்டு வந்தது என்றும், 1539ல் டச்சு மொழியில் இத்தினம் பற்றி குறிப்பிடப்பட்டு இருந்ததென்றும் சில குறிப்புகள் தெரிவிக்கின்றன. 1466ல் பிலிப்பைன்சை சேர்ந்த மன்னனை அவரது அவைக் கவிஞர் முட்டாளாக்கிய தினம் இது என்றும் ஒரு கருத்து உண்டு.
